Pirate Characters Disembark
At a July 23 SITELINES event at the South Street Seaport, Nicholas Leichter Dance and Monstah Black put smiles on the faces of lunchtime passers-by— and raised a few eyebrows.

Passers-by watched NLD vogue into the large rectangular performing area. The dancers learned a new club dance to directives in Black's song. We were tempted to join them but no one dared. In the plein air show, they suggested a mash-up of characters. Mathew Heggem was a dead-ringer for Giselle's James. Tartan, yellow belt, or pirate hero— the costumes amped up the energetic fun. One could almost smell seafaring salt air.
